Devotion is something I personally find to be lacking within the Northern Tradition and Nordic Paganism, and Paganism in general in fact. Devotionals and praying are so often dismissed as "something Christians do" and as a result many Pagans only focus on ritual, saying empty evocations at Sabbats, hailings at sumbel, or whatever. I feel that this attitude does everyone a grave disservice and think that this is why so many in the Pagan community tend to be so "soul starved". Devotion and prayer feeds the soul and reaffirms our connection to the Divine, whatever you hold that to be....whether it be to God, Goddess, Gods and Goddesses, the Universe, whatever.
One good thing I can honestly say I took from my years as a devout Christian (a long, long time ago) is that I learned how to pray and learned how energizing and reaffirming doing daily devotionals can be. It can be as elaborate as a daily ritual or as simple as just lighting a candle on your Patron's altar and meditating. Either way I have found that it really does uplift me and makes me feel I am accomplishing something spiritually.
Below I have an outline of what my personal devotional practice consists of. Some people might think it's a lot and it can be...I don't always follow it perfectly and do slack of sometimes due to other obligations or laziness. I don't berate myself for that though. The Gods understand when I have other things to take care of and I would like to think that They acknowledge that if I don't take care of myself there won't be a me to pray to Them.
Perhaps you can use this outline to set up your own practice, or get some ideas. Either way here it is laid out there FYI. (And because a lot of my friends have expressed curiousity about it).
One thing I do that would probably be pretty obvious to most people familiar with Norse cosmology is hold daily fainings for the Deity that day is named for. With the exception of Saturday all of the days of the week are named for Nordic Deities, and I use that information to keep in mind who I would like to do offerings to on that day with a few exceptions:
Tuesday--Tyr
Wendesday--Odin and Hela
Thursday--Thor
Friday--Frigga, Freyja, and Frey. Scholars debate Who exactly the day is named for, but I just forget the whole thing and honor all three.
Saturday--the Scandinavian name for Saturday is derived from the name for the water Rune, so I use this day to honor the Sea Deities--Aegir, Ran, Their Nine Daughters, and sometimes Njord
Sunday--I usually use this day as a free-for-all. Most of the time it ends up being Loki, sometimes it's Mengloth and the Healers of Lyfja Mount
Monday--again, a free-for-all. Usually Skadhi. I'll also renew the offering for my housewight and the landvaetir around my apartment on this day.
In addition, every night I say my Fire Etin prayer beads which are on another page. When it's appropriate I also say my moon prayer beads if it is a niight of that particular phase of the moon. And I make time for Loki everyday since He's my Patron.
